London family home refresh
James and Kate were looking for an interior designer in London, but found me instead to help me refresh their ground floor London home. The living room is a long rectangle with two distinct areas. The upper end with a sofa, TV, media area and great custom built bookshelf. But the lower end of the room overlooking the garden, did not have a sense of purpose or function as all of the family activity, reading, listening to music TV watching took place at the top end. Time to review, zone and balance all the space, to define flexibility and function.
I took inspiration from the colours and items in the living room. An original 1970s lamp and a favourite print of Kate's with deep orange and green elements, a mid-century sideboard and large green plants gave the space a 70s vibe. Geometric wallpaper on the long wall and colour blocking two walls at either end pulled the two areas together. Re-siting the TV and the sofa to the lower end leaving the top area for reading and listening to music created a better flow as well as improved distribution of space allowing more flexibility for the various activities.
Working with Annie was a pleasure throughout. Annie totally understood what we wanted and delivered some great ideas that we are implementing now. Would completely recommend!
