Eclectic mix decor

Claire and Dan have a spacious modern farmhouse style home in the Norfolk countryside.  The house was a complete renovation job, now close to completion. They contacted me for help on the L-shaped living room.  It had all the right elements of a comfortable family living room.  A brick fireplace with a woodburner, a long wall with two windows and French doors looking out onto the garden. But Claire and Dan were stuck on how to plan and zone to make best use of the space.

Claire likes contemporary interiors with a light, neutral, Scandi look.  Dan prefers stronger colours and likes vintage. As well as zoning and planning the layout for flexibility, I needed to seamlessly combine the two styles. The living room architecture had low ceilings and a brick fireplace, helping to create character. I used a charcoal/dark green paint in the chimney recesses, a great background for vintage items, mirrors, paintings and simple wooden furniture. An unexpected wire frame chair with a sheepskin cover provides an unexpected eclectic, but contemporary element!
