1930s Riverside Cottage
Suzy Howlett, Frome
DESIGN BRIEF, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
Suzy was thrilled to find a 1930s Riverside Cottage in Frome, a delightful riverside setting close to the centre of town complete with its own Ratty and Moley boat dock outside the front door. The cottage is full of charm and character, with plenty of 1930s style. A first floor wooden verandah and bay window overlooks the riverside setting but the cottage needs renovation and an update.
The plan is to extend the kitchen upwards and outwards into the small courtyard at the back of the house which rises up to a steep terraced garden. The groundworks will push back into the terraced garden to extend the size of the kitchen and create an outside patio for dining al fresco. The designs for the new kitchen include a light, airy extension in steel, wood and glass but will also maintain the integrity and period style of the building.

Ground Floor Design
1930s houses usually have symmetrical, square rooms with original features like fireplaces and bay windows, so a great base for Mid Century Modern designs which Suzy loves. Although Suzy is taking her time with making design choices and changes at this stage as she wants to live in the house some time before making decisions, always a good idea. But asked me to help her with identifying potential designs ready for the next stage in the renovation.
We finally identified a Mid Century Modern scheme with a modern twist as the right strategy for the living room, kitchen and first floor front bedroom with balcony as a study space. So Suzy is ready with a new design strategy for decor, colours, furnishings when its time to make a start on the fun bit!
EXTRA VISUALS, BEFORE AND AFTER
Suzy's review
"Annie has used careful floor plans and 3D visualisations of my 1930s terraced cottage to make sure she has the story of my home as the basis for ideas.
With Annie you will find a creative partnership which combines your personality, budget and way of living with her expertise, experience and wide knowledge.
This is an affordable way to make sure you don't blunder into costly, ill-suited purchases which looked great in a magazine but turn out to be mistakes."
