Scott's New Build, Wells
Scott Flavell
DESIGN BRIEF, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
Scott contacted me in the depths of the 2020 pandemic as he had just bought his first house in Wells and needed help to warm up the new build with colour and character. In our first zoom call Scott was fairly clear he was looking for strong decor, hipster coffee shop vibe with a balance of natural and unpolished.
Its not a definitive formula, but starting with industrial lighting, leather sofas and exposed wood tables are an easy way to create this style. Complement with boho or Ikat ethnic rugs, artwork, metal accents and a mix of vintage or antiques will deliver on this style.
Scott loved it and has now returned for me to help him with his second new build in Wells!

Whole House Design
For his second new build Scott wanted the living room to be a casual, comfortable space for relaxing with friends. As usual in a new build the first talking point is where to site the TV wall in the living room. With a window on the front wall and two of the remaining walls with doors cuts down wall choice. But Scott's priority was to give space for a large squishy sofa.
We came up with the idea of removing the hallway doorway to create an unbroken TV wall with a slat wall panel. This created a bit more of an open plan effect and as new houses are well insulted it shouldn't cause a draught issue. We also added a swivel chair as a reading nook by the window also to be used as additional seating for extra guests.
Scott was still keen on his dark Boho vibe but favouring dark green instead of dark blue, layering with rugs cushions and cafe style lighting. Our chosen paint was Little Green Ambleside, an attractive dark green paint named after the farmhouse Beatrix Potter bought as a retreat from London. Soft, green, lovely!
