Home renovation journey
Redford and Laura Pennycook
DESIGN BRIEF, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
Renovating a home while living in it can be a daunting task, but Redford and Laura are tackling it with grace. With Redford's expertise as a builder and their shared vision for their family's space, they're turning their semi in Bristol into a haven for family living.
The key to managing such a project is to start with a clear plan. Redford and Laura wisely began by envisioning the entire project, including the new extension. Their decision to wrap the extension around their home not only adds square footage but also creates a seamless flow from old to new.
The side extension serves practical purposes, housing an extended hallway, a utility room and a cloakroom. Meanwhile, the back extension seamlessly joins with the existing space to form a spacious kitchen diner with an island and a cosy sitting area.

Wrap around Extension
Redford and Laura already had a unique style blend in mind: traditional, vintage, and industrial. This eclectic mix is brought to life in the kitchen/diner area with touches like an exposed beam and rustic brickwork. The addition of wall paneling provides a perfect backdrop for displaying favourite artwork and photos.
In the dining area, a farmhouse table surrounded by mismatched vintage seating adds charm and personality.
To maintain flexibility and separate spaces, Crittal-style windows divide the kitchen/diner from the existing living room, allowing the family to engage in different activities throughout the day.
The living room, has been given a cosy makeover. A simple woodburner takes center stage, surrounded by an eclectic mix of vintage and recycled pieces that complement the industrial vibe of the kitchen. The result? A space that's both inviting and full of character, perfect for this young family to enjoy for years to come.
