DESIGN BRIEF, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
Creating a modern Victorian home that preserves the charm of the era while incorporating contemporary elements can be a delightful challenge. I was really happy to help out Mark and Theresa for the second time (I had previously worked on their new open plan kitchen about 3/4 years ago) for this challenge we finished the job of successfully blending old and new in their Victorian Terrace, highlighting the focal point of high ceilings and decorative moldings in each room.
The brief was to update their two bedrooms and starting in the master, we layered textures to add depth and richness with velvet curtains, rugs, throws, chandelier lighting and a playful William Morris wallpaper. Modern artwork and accessories brought in a modern edge and infused energy into the space while keeping it visually balanced.

The second bedroom was transformed into an additional sitting room/office for listening to music or having a quiet read on the sofa bed. A much better use of space if you only have the occasional guest. The couple love bold blues and chose a deep teal, contrasting with a light Acqua to bring a vibrant, modern feel into the space.
Storage was a big element as Victorian homes typically have limited storage space. Mark and Theresa decided to have a substantial declutter before filling up their new and existing storage. Marie Kondo is helping out here! The couple have some lovely Vintage pieces which carefully chosen, will work really well in both spaces. Window treatments were jaunty regency inspired blinds that complement both rooms. Both living spaces now feel both timeless and contemporary!

Mark's review
"My wife and I have used Annie on 2 occasions in the last 3-4 years. Initially we used her brilliant designs as a basis for converting a galley kitchen and reception room into a kitchen diner. Her designs gave us the confidence to carry out this project which for us was very important and extensive.
Annie is at all times honest, supportive and empathetic. She also has a great sense of humour which one needs when embarking on a large project. Currently, Annie has been helping us to redesign two bedrooms and she came up with the brilliant idea of have one bedroom and the second room as a second living space for reading and music where guests can also stay. My wife and I would not hesitate in recommending Annie. "
