Richard's bungalow conversion

living room.jpeg

Richard had been looking for a substantial project for some time and this bungalow in Wedmore, Somerset was ripe for someone with vision to renovate.  Although an Architect and Builder were engaged Richard was keen to visualise the interior to ensure his ideas and plans were on target.  Architect's plans are detailed for understanding space in a 2D context, but its difficult to imagine an interior by viewing a construction plan.   Similar to a lot of bungalows this one had many alterations and additions over the years.  Various owners kept adding external add-ons without thought to the overall footprint.  Walking around was disorientating as you entered endless corridors on the way to yet another external addition.  The original central living room core was still in its original design.

This choppiness totally unbalanced the central core, as the main living  area overlooked a large garden and two terraces, one upper and one lower. Richard's plan was to gut and remodel the internal space to create a central open plan area to take advantage of the terraces and gardens to be seen from anywhere in the property and ensuring the central core area had plenty of space to incorporate a new kitchen, living and dining area. We designed the interior in an urban style with high end materials and brick facing to display Richard's artwork in the stunning double height mezzanine.  As a WFH space this has a more characterful, eclectic vibe.  Can't wait to walk around the finished project!
